Ballet Folklórico Aztlán de California State University, Northridge (BFA de CSUN) is proud to announce the revival of the California State University (CSU) Folklórico Showcase. The annual concert has historically been hosted by many universities throughout the years. Previous hosts include San Jose State University in 2017, Fresno State University in 2018, and CSU Long Beach in 2019. It is now CSU Northridge’s opportunity to host the concert and continue the connection building across the CSU system. Currently, BFA de CSUN is fundraising for the 9th ever music and dance concert, CSU Folklórico Showcase, taking place on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Plaza del Sol Performance Hall.
Founded by Dr. Victor Torres from Fresno State, this event intends to inspire Chicano/a/x/e and Latino/a/x/e high school students to pursue higher education while maintaining their passion for dance, especially Mexican Folklórico. This also provides CSU folklórico groups the opportunity to display their hard work and support fellow collegiate dancers. BFA wishes this year's CSU Showcase provides a space that fosters connection within the collegiate folklórico community and celebrates our Mexican culture through dance. At this year’s concert BFA de CSUN will present folkloric dances from two different regions of Mexico: Jerez, Zacatecas and the Sotavento region of Veracruz. Other CSU participating include Fresno State University, San Jose State, CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton, and Cal State LA.
The organization works really hard all year to fundraise as much as possible to pay for most of the expenses for the concert venue as well as for an equitable compensation to the invited guest groups. We are hopeful that we will raise enough funds this year to cover all costs and provide a satisfactory compensation to those groups attending. However, support from others to cover other expenses is always extremely helpful and necessary.
