Keep the Momentum Going!

Head Coach Andy Newman has transformed the trajectory of the CSUN men’s basketball program. In just two seasons, he has led the program to 41 victories — the most successful two-year stretch in more than two decades — and delivered back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2008–09. The 2024–25 campaign tied a program record with 22 wins, set a benchmark with 14 conference victories, and culminated in the program’s first National Invitation Tournament appearance. Beyond the measurable success, Coach Newman has established a culture rooted in accountability, player development, and sustained competitive growth.
Progress of this magnitude requires continued commitment.
To sustain this level of excellence, the recruitment and retention of student-athletes is essential. Support for recruitment and retention is a direct investment in Coach Newman’s vision — strengthening our ability to attract premier student-athletes, retain the players who define our culture, and provide the competitive resources necessary to compete for Big West championships.
Continuing the momentum from Giving Day and with the leadership of The Paul & Jill Drecksel Foundation, we are working to meet their generous $150,000 donation supporting the recruitment and retention of student-athletes on the CSUN Men's Basketball Team as the program prepares for the 2026–27 season.
Moments like this define the future of a program.
Coach Newman has elevated the standard and positioned the Matadors to compete at the highest level. Now, as a community, we have the opportunity to match that progress with commitment.
This is our time to come together, invest in recruitment and retention, and ensure that this historic rise becomes the foundation for sustained championship success.
