The Mission The NSBE chapter at CSUN is a community of passionate Black Engineers and STEM students who strive for academic excellence and success in the professional world. NSBE's mission statement to," increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community." We seek out every possible experience that helps our club members that could help better prepare them for their bright futures. This fall we are lucky to have an opportunity present itself in Southern California. The Opportunity The NSBE Fall Region 6 Conference (FRC) will be located at the Los Angeles Marriot from October 23-25, 2026. The FRC will bring undergraduate, graduate, and working professionals for 3 days of networking, career opportunities and professional development. Having our chapter attending will give our members access to: Regional Career Fair: Our members will be able to meet with recruiters, interview for internships, and build rapport with companies who are looking for rising black engineers and stem students. Professional Development Workshops: Sessions on resume building and technical interviews will help better our members who will need to stand out in such a competitive job market. Competitions: Our members will also be able to represent CSUN at the Academic TechBowl, Technical Research Exhibition, Elevator Pitch Competition, and Debate Competition. This will put their knowledge and communication skills to the plate against peers from other schools and states. Our Goal : No Engineer Left Behind Having such a major conference so close to home is such a rare and inviitng opportunity and we want every eligible member to take full advantage of it. Even through we don't have to travel out of our county the costs of registration, lodging and transportation can make it hard for many students to attend. We are hoping to make these financial barriers to not stand in the way of our futures. Your donation will directly invest in the future of CSUN's Black engineers and stem students. Marlene Clara Marlene Clara is a documentary filmmaker with experience in independent films, documentaries, and film festivals. She has showcased her first documentary feature, where she served as producer and camera operator, and co-created the Inland Empire’s first women’s film festival. Her work has been recognized at local festivals, reflecting her commitment to storytelling and community impact.Her primary focus is bringing projects to life from development through completion. Ryan Huizar Ryan Huizar is a director and cinematographer from Santa Monica, California, born and raised. For this thesis film, he serves as Director of Photography and Director, shaping the visual language and overall creative vision of the project. Ryan is passionate about blending cinematic storytelling with raw authenticity, using composition, lighting, and movement to elevate each frame. Outside of thesis work, he focuses on independent film projects, music-driven visual storytelling, and creative collaborations that bridge culture, style, and sound. Marlon Melgar Born in the San Fernando Valley and living in the Greater Los Angeles Area for over 30 years. A love for the city of LA and a passion to show the majesty of Los Angeles. A budding Sound designer and Mixer, with this being the very first project. Can manage microphones, mixing equipment, and recording devices, adapting to changing environments and production challenges, along with having a strong ear for detail in bringing authenticity and emotional depth to every scene. Chad Carpenter Chad has been fascinated by the building blocks of storytelling since he first began creating stop-motion LEGO movies and short films in high school. While he has gained significant experience on set as a Director and Director of Photography, he discovered that his true calling is in the edit suite. Chad spends his free time immersed in the post-production process, editing everything from YouTube content to deeply personal passion projects. This constant dedication to the craft has refined his eye for pacing, rhythm, and narrative flow. Chad is working toward a career as an Assistant Editor, with the ultimate goal of becoming a Lead Editor and shaping impactful stories from the ground up. Justin Fernandez My name is Justin Fernandez, and I am the editor of Mr. Murale. I am currently working on creating a personal autobiographical portrait intended to inspire individuals with developmental disabilities, like myself, to believe that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to receive a week of highly specialized performance training with Cirque du Soleil artists in the Mojave desert! Theatre Department Welcome to the fundraising campaign for The Circus & Clown Desert Intensive, a CSUN Theatre Students performance training event. We appreciate your time and support. Thank you for visiting our page! The Circus & Clown Desert Intensive A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for CSUN acting students to train for a week with internationally renowned Cirque du Soleil artists on a ranch outside of Las Vegas in the Mojave Desert at a Circus Camp for Clowns! This unique program is created specifically for CSUN Theatre students by Professor Sonia Norris, theatre/circus director and Head of Acting in the Theatre Department. The week-long performance training intensive is held at the Sandy Valley Ranch, providing five days and nights of workshops for 26 students, with professional circus and clown artists currently performing in Cirque du Soleil and Speigelworld Vegas productions. Students receive 30 hours of instruction in ten performance disciplines including: Aerial Silks, Hoop, Trapeze, Cyr Wheel, Stilt walking, Juggling, Acrobatics, Mime, Fire spinning, and Clown performance. In the evenings, students will travel to Las Vegas to watch their instructors perform in Cirque du Soleil productions and receive backstage tours to meet the performers and walk on stage. In the desert, there is space to dream. Students are housed on the ranch in magical glamping sites, sleeping out in the desert in teepees, covered wagons, tin trailers, bell tents, and tiny homes (<a href="https://sandyvalleyranchnv.com/accommodations">https://sandyvalleyranchnv.com/accommodations</a>). It is transformative training for performers because it requires that we face our fears of failure, build courage, imagination, and daring. It reveals how much more we are capable of being, and, how amazing we already are. Clown training transformed my life – as an actor and as a person. It gave me the courage to stand up inside myself, both on and off stage, and taught me how to share the truth of who I am - foibles, failings, faults and all. It taught me resiliency and how to find my pleasure to play in a world that often makes me rage. It gave me a ferocious joy to be alive. This is what I want to share with my students. I created this intensive to share this transformative training with CSUN Theatre students to expand their vision of who they are, what they can create, and what is possible in the world. This generation of students needs to believe they have the power to affect change in the world and to create something magical - and our world, teetering precariously right now, needs their creative imaginations, ignited with the clown’s radical joy for living, to take us into the future. Help CSUN ACASOLA raise funds to record an Album! ACASOLA Welcome to the fundraising Campaign for CSUN ACASOLA's 20th Anniversary Album! Acasola is California State University, Northridge’s (CSUN) premiere A Cappella group. This is a diverse group of students who aim to deliver a unique musical experience to the CSUN community, through the art of A Cappella music. ACASOLA is a 16-member vocal ensemble that is driven by passion. This group rehearses 3 times a week for 3 hours at a time. This year, ACASOLA wants to display its growth and dedication with an exciting new project, which is a fully produced album! This album will feature about 10 tracks; every single track has been arranged by current or past members. This album will not only showcase talent but also be a reflection of the group's creativity. With this project, ACASOLA aims to highlight the talent within the group, as well as the talent within CSUN. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for taking the time to learn about ACASOLA and for supporting us in bringing this dream to life. Your contribution helps turn all this time of rehearsal into something that will last forever. Acasola was founded in 2006, and each successive generation of the group has built upon the foundation laid by those who have come before us. Acasola has recorded at Capitol Records with Corbin Bleu, placed 1st at the Los Angeles A Cappella Festival 2016, appeared at the ICCAs, on TV’s “Raising Hope,” and in numerous shows throughout California. As active members of the contemporary a cappella community, Acasola has been featured on “Best of College A Cappella 2018” (BOCA) and “Voices Only 2020”, received the “Best Mixed Collegiate Video” award at the A Cappella Video Awards (AVAs), won “Outstanding Soloist” and “Outstanding Vocal Percussionist” at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA). Acasola released their debut album, Always Acasola, in 2009. The following was Resolution, released in 2019. Additionally, we have released other songs such as “Christmas in L.A.”, and a single + B-side, “Fortress” and “Let’s Fall in Love for the Night”, streaming on all platforms! This year, we hope to launch another, and with your help, that can be a reality!

Department of Cinema & TV Arts Help CSUN film production students fund Lilies, a senior thesis short film written and directed by Ally Becerra that is about family, following your dreams, and overcoming fear! The Story Lilies is a heartfelt short film that follows a 16-year-old girl who has spent part of her life in the foster care system. It follows her story at her newest placement with a distant uncle named Elias, whom she has never met before. As the story unfolds, both Elias and the audience learn about her dream of becoming a ballerina. Meet the Team Our CSUN senior thesis project, Lilies, is a team of nearly 30 devoted film students who are using their skills and heart to bring this production to life. These students are dedicated and passionate individuals who care deeply about telling a great story. Together, we are determined to tell an uplifting and compelling story that will invoke empathy within its audiences. Help CSUN TV seniors raise funds for their thesis film! CTVA TV Narrative DEVELOPMENT is a CSUN thesis short film and supernatural thriller about Raymond Blake, a struggling film photographer who refuses to give up on analog photography. After losing his camera, Raymond purchases a mysterious unmarked 35mm camera and soon discovers that the photographs he develops are not showing images captured; they are revealing events before they happen. When one of the photographs appears to show his girlfriend, Avery, dead and Raymond being taken away in handcuffs, he becomes desperate to understand what the images mean before the future catches up with them. At its heart, DEVELOPMENT is a story about love, fear, interpretation, and the consequences of believing we understand the future before we have the full picture. WHY WE ARE MAKING THIS FILM As student filmmakers at California State University, Northridge, our goal is to create a polished, cinematic short film that allows us to apply the skills we have developed throughout our education to a professional-style production. DEVELOPMENT combines suspense, drama, practical filmmaking, analog photography, and visual storytelling. The darkroom and film-development process are especially important to the visual identity of the project, allowing the audience to experience Raymond’s discoveries alongside him. The project is being produced as a CSUN thesis production, with filming planned to begin after October 15, 2026. Help CSUN Formula Society of automotive engineers raise funds to build their competition formula style vehicle! Society of Automotive Engineer Matador Motorsports is CSUN’s Formula SAE team. Since 1988, our students have designed, built, tested, and raced formula-style race cars, competing against more than 100+ universities from around the world. As a senior capstone project for mechanical engineering students, Formula SAE brings classroom knowledge to life. Our team operates like an engineering company, giving students hands on experience in design, manufacturing, testing, project management, and teamwork. Through this process, students develop the technical knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills needed to tackle real world engineering challenges and prepare for their future careers. Our team brings together hardworking, motivated, and dedicated CSUN students but bringing a new car to competition each year takes support from people like you. Your donation helps provide the materials, tools, and resources that turn our designs into a competitive race car while investing in the next generation of engineers. In May 2026, Matador Motorsports competed against 140 universities at Michigan International Speedway and earned 21st place overall! This follows a strong record of results, including 11th overall in 2025, 12th in 2024, 15th in 2023, and 5th in 2021. These accomplishments reflect the passion, dedication, and hard work of our student engineers, along with the generosity of our friends, families, alumni, and sponsors. Miss Woman is set in a hyper-realistic world that explores themes of identity, gender dynamics, and the importance of female friendship. Our team is dedicated to creating the most authentic story we can through absurdist comedy that is guaranteed to pull on your heartstrings. As we follow Toro and Piper through their journey to Wyoming, we see a peek into what it's like to be a woman in this day and age. We see what it's like to foster friendships that will last a lifetime, while navigating harmful stereotypes of what a woman is expected to be. It’s a story about reigniting passion and self-worth in the fast-paced, pressure-packed world of professional cooking. As our protagonist climbs the ranks in a high-stakes kitchen environment, we witness his struggle to grow, prove himself, and rediscover what truly motivates him. Will he rise to the challenge and seize this opportunity, or remain stuck doing a job he doesn’t love? This film immerses viewers in the sizzling sights and sounds of a working sushi kitchen, capturing the intensity of the food service industry and the artistry behind each dish. Expect visually engaging cooking moments alongside deeply human moments of growth and realization. At its heart, Find Enjoyment is about discovering what drives us and finding purpose even when the odds (and the orders) are stacked against us. It’s Ratatouille meets Whiplash – an inspiring underdog tale set amid chopping boards and flaming stoves, where the love of creation triumphs over adversity. Director’s Vision Raymond Lee, the writer-director of Find Enjoyment, is a Korean-American filmmaker born and raised in Los Angeles. Before pursuing film, Raymond spent years working in restaurant kitchens, including sushi bars, where he experienced firsthand the challenges, camaraderie, and creativity of the food world. Though he grew to love cooking, he eventually discovered filmmaking and noticed “many similarities between the kitchen and the set” – both are fast-paced team environments that require discipline, creativity, and passion. This film is a very personal project for Raymond. In his own words, Find Enjoyment is his love letter to the culinary world and to anyone who pours their heart into creating something meaningful. Raymond realized that what he loved most about cooking wasn’t just the food itself, but the act of creation – “the process of gathering whatever ingredients I could... and seeing what I can create from them”. That same creative spark fuels his filmmaking. By blending his two passions (food and film), Raymond is giving a proper sendoff to his cooking journey in the best way he knows how – through storytelling. His vision is to celebrate the hard-working chefs and dreamers behind the kitchen doors, and to inspire viewers to find enjoyment in their own pursuits, no matter the field. Meet the Team As a CSUN senior thesis project, Find Enjoyment is powered by a team of more than 25 dedicated film students who are pouring their talent and heart into this production. Raymond has assembled a dedicated and passionate crew of fellow storytellers – from producers and cinematographers to editors and sound designers – all of whom share his enthusiasm for this film’s message. Many on our team have personal connections to the subject matter: for example, one crew member with restaurant experience is excited to help bring “the grunge beauty of a kitchen” to life on screen, while our director of photography can’t wait to capture the intricate art of sushi-making in vivid detail. We are a tight-knit crew who have grown together through CSUN’s film program, and we’re united by a common goal: to tell a compelling, uplifting story that resonates with anyone who’s ever fought for their dream. We’re aiming to raise $25,000 to cover the essential costs of bringing Find Enjoyment to life at the highest possible standard. Here’s where your contributions will go: Authentic Locations & Production Design: We need to secure a real sushi restaurant location to lend authenticity to our scenes. Transforming it into a film set comes with costs – from rental fees to dressing the space with kitchen props, ingredients, and decor that make the environment believable. We’ll also be hiring a professional food stylist to ensure every sushi roll and dish looks mouth-wateringly perfect on camera (imagine the meticulous care that goes into each close-up of knife work and plating!). Additionally, we’ll have to source plenty of fresh ingredients for multiple takes, meaning our food budget is significant. Equipment, Crew & Logistics: Lighting, cameras, sound gear, and other equipment rentals are crucial to achieving a cinematic look. We’re also committed to feeding our hardworking cast and crew throughout the shoot – long days on set mean lots of meals. Fortunately, Raymond’s chef friends have stepped up to help cater for us at a specially discounted cost, but we still must budget for feeding 15+ people over several days. Other expenses include permits, insurance, transportation, and post-production (editing, sound mixing, color grading) to polish the final film. Our team is contributing out-of-pocket and leveraging support from our personal networks – family, friends, and even local food businesses are eager to help. In fact, Raymond’s connections in the food industry (chefs and small businesses he’s known for years) are rallying behind the project. But even with these community contributions, we cannot reach our full budget without broader help. “Setting up a CSUN Funder for direct donations will be one of the most successful ways for us to raise funds,” Raymond notes. This campaign is our chance to open the project to supporters like you. Our goal is to ensure that this scholarship can meaningfully support students who exemplify the qualities and values Dr. Boris Ricks championed. Political Science Department We are raising funds for a scholarship established in honor of Dr. Boris Ricks, whose leadership and dedication has left a lasting impact on countless California State University, Northridge students. This scholarship will continue Dr. Ricks's legacy by supporting students who have the potential for leadership at CSUN or in the community. Through this scholarship, we hope to empower recipients to achieve their academic and professional goals while honoring Dr. Ricks's contributions to the Political Science Department, CSUN, and the Southern California community. Dr. Boris Ricks’s Legacy Dr. Boris Ricks was an Associate Professor of Political Science at CSUN and a respected faculty member since 2008. Prior to joining CSUN, Dr. Ricks served as an Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department at the University of Missouri from 2006 to 2008. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Southern California in 2003. Dr. Ricks was a devoted educator and scholar whose teaching and research spanned a wide range of topics. His scholarship focused on the study of government, politics, and political actors, with an emphasis on their origins, foundations, and interactions with groups and individuals. Within this framework, he concentrated on key concepts such as power, conflict, social justice, equality, relative deprivation, and representation. Dr. Ricks applied these concepts to analyze the socio-political impact of critical issues like voting rights, poverty, crime, education, environmental justice, and health disparities, particularly in urban settings. Dr. Ricks’s publications included articles, book chapters, and book reviews featured in The Journal of Race & Policy, Rhetoric & Public Affairs, Journal of American History, and many other outlets. Dr. Ricks was also a tireless and dedicated mentor, extending his guidance to students within and beyond the Political Science Department. His office was often marked by a long line of students eager to meet with him. Known for his fairness and kindness, he was deeply respected and highly popular among his students. Dr. Ricks was also an active leader on campus, within the California State University system, and in the Los Angeles community. Dr. Ricks served on the CSUN Faculty Senate as well as on the CSU Academic Senate. He frequently contributed as a commentator for local television, radio, print, and social media news outlets. In 2023, he played a key role in leading the L.A. Governance Reform Project, collaborating with researchers from several Los Angeles universities. The project proposed significant reforms to the city council aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability within the municipal government. Honoring Dr. Boris Ricks’s Legacy The Dr. Boris Ricks Memorial Fund supports a scholarship established by Dr. Renford Reese, Professor of Political Science at Cal Poly Pomona, in tribute to Dr. Ricks’s lasting impact. This fund is dedicated to awarding scholarships to CSUN students who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential, either on campus or within the community, while promoting the values Dr. Ricks championed. By fostering future leaders, the fund aims to honor and preserve Dr. Ricks’s enduring legacy of service, mentorship, and community engagement.

CSUN CTVA 346 TV Episodic HURRY, WE HAVE TO SAVE THE WORLD!!! By saving...the mall??! Bert is your average internet loser. He is nerdy, lost, and obsessed with comics. Especially the web-comic, Super Defender Extreme-O! When he hears that the author of his favorite comic is going to hold an announcement at their comic book store, he leaps at the chance, dragging his best friend, Jeff, with him. There, they learn that the author doesn’t plan to have a huge finale for the series, but instead is writing an ending FOR HIMSELF! Determined to not let the author kill himself (and thus, killing his favorite comic book superhero), he has less than 24 hours to inspire the author. The thing is, Bert is far from a hero! But, with the help of the solo Mall Security Guard, he can be just like Super Defender Extreme-o! Better yet, what if he became Super Defender Extreme-o? Watch Bert become a superhero, fail, and try and try again in this short episodic series created by CSUN TV students. SAVE THE AUTHOR, SAVE THE (comic) WORLD! Any and all donations will help us get closer to being able to save poor Gerald and Super Defender Extreme-O's story! The money you donate will help us by going towards. . . <ul><li>LOCATION: Places aren't cheap, and we will need the money and ability to be able to film in a shopping mall (and other places, but largely the mall). </li><li>COSTUMES/WARDROBE: This would go towards the specific wardrobe elements, and most especially the superhero costumes, that we will be making for our project.</li><li>PROPS: As well as making action figures and acquiring specific items to better tell our story through visuals.</li><li>COMIC ART AND POSTERS: Not only are we making a superhero-inspired TV series, we will also be making custom and artist-made comic book art and posters for the lore of our story! </li><li>CATERING: We can't let our crew go hungry on our set, they won't ever come back. The Steel Bridge Project provides students with invaluable hands-on experience that extends beyond the classroom. ASCE Steel Bridge Team The California State University, Northridge (CSUN) ASCE Steel Bridge Team is a dedicated group of civil engineering students who apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. As part of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter, our team designs, fabricates, and constructs a scaled steel bridge to compete against universities from across the United States in the annual Student Steel Bridge Competition. The Steel Bridge Project provides students with invaluable hands-on experience that extends beyond the classroom. Team members develop technical and professional skills in structural analysis and design, fabrication, construction planning, project management, budgeting, communication, and teamwork. Through this experience, students gain practical knowledge and confidence that prepare them for successful careers in the engineering industry while representing CSUN at the regional and national levels. Our team competes in the Pacific Southwest Symposium (PSWS), a regional competition featuring universities from Southern California and Hawaii. The top two teams earn the opportunity to advance to the Student Steel Bridge Competition (SSBC) National Finals, where they compete against the best collegiate steel bridge teams from across the United States. The competition challenges students to design, fabricate, and construct a steel bridge that satisfies rigorous engineering specifications while maximizing overall performance. Teams are evaluated across seven categories: Construction Speed, Stiffness (Bridge Deflection), Structural Efficiency, Lightness (Bridge Weight), Economy, Aesthetics, and Cost Estimation. Success requires balancing technical design, fabrication quality, construction strategy, and teamwork to produce a bridge that excels in all aspects of the competition. The Steel Bridge Team relies on sponsor support to help fund materials, tools, travel, lodging, and competition expenses. Our students devote countless hours—often late into the evening—to designing, fabricating, and testing the bridge, gaining invaluable hands-on experience beyond the classroom. Our Purpose The Health Administration Student Association is dedicated to providing enriching experiences for students interested in the allied health field. We are planning many more educational, networking, and social events throughout the semester to help students connect, learn, and grow.
