Welcome to the fundraising campaign for Next Door to Alice! We’re a team of CSUN student filmmakers bringing a story of first love, family, and one chaotic moving day to the screen.
Next Door to Alice follows a 16 year old Arab American teenager determined to confess his love before leaving town. Between his mother’s demands, his older brother’s interference, and a truck full of boxes, finding a moment alone with Alice becomes a race against time.
As moving day unravels, Sami must navigate his family’s expectations while finding the courage to say what he’s kept to himself for years.
More Than a Goodbye
At its heart, Next Door to Alice explores the tension between wanting to follow your own heart and understanding the people closest to you. For Sami, the move threatens a relationship he hasn’t had the chance to begin. For his mother, it means making difficult sacrifices to provide for her family.
Through humor and moments of tenderness, the film makes room for an Arab American family’s everyday experiences like sibling arguments, awkward romance, and love that isn’t always expressed gently.
This story was created to give a voice to those struggle with the themes we tackle, whether that's a longing for connection, a sudden change in trajectory, and balancing family with your own life and how to navigate through it all. We hope everyone watching can learn something from this, learn to grow, adapt, and speak your mind when it's connected to your heart.
What Your Donation Supports
Our fundraising goal is $4000. This campaign will help cover a significant portion of our production budget.
Your contributions will support:
Locations: 1 House, Radford, 1 Coffee Shop, and a U-Haul.
Camera, Lighting, and Sound: Sony Venice 2, Dolly's, Cooke lenses, and a Professional Lighting Package.
Production Design: Creating an isolating feeling while committing to the chaos. Moving aesthetic, boxes, furniture, household items, coffee shop decor.
Transportation: U-Haul Rental, gas and carpool expenses, potential lodging for cast.
Meals for Cast and Crew: 5 day full catering for minimum 20-30 people.
Postproduction: Technicolor, Fotokem, editing resources, mixing, and distribution/marketing.
Every contribution helps our team move closer to bringing this story from the screenplay to the screen.
