Description
When Jane, a bored, mystery-obsessed movie theater security guard discovers a murder has taken place, she and one very handsome janitor Bob have to crack the case! Their quest brings them to seemingly unexpected places, and soon Jane realizes the customer’s death might not be the only murder to solve– their beloved cinema itself hangs in the balance.
Welcome to your local movie theater, where the popcorn is stale and the carpet could use a scrub… Here you’ll find moviegoers of all backgrounds, though these days many of them have vanished. You may also find mysterious goings-on, such as unusual suspects, shirtless janitors, and in the case of Jane the security guard, a dead body. Something fishy is going on here.
While this may all look like fun and games, our team is looking to create this film as an homage to cinema’s golden age while reminding the audience of the place that film has flourished: the movie theater. The moviegoing experience is one that combines community, innovation, and culture through the people that participate and the places that allow for it. Our eccentric protagonist Jane is a fierce (yet pensive) protector of this tradition and as the audience follows her adventure we hope that they will feel the same.
Since filmmaking is a collaborative process, it is only natural that our team could use some outside help. Your donations will go towards gear rentals, production design, providing meals and compensation for cast and crew, and the overall ushering of our education in film into its next chapter. The senior thesis in the CSUN Film Program is a very important accumulation of all that we have learned both in class and beyond, and we sincerely appreciate any help that comes our way!
Note from the Director:
Movies are dying! Cinemas are seeing record low attendance, and with AI companies breathing down the necks of everyone trying to work in the industry right now, our future is increasingly uncertain. Jane, like us, is a steadfast believer in the sanctity of stories, and she stands in for anyone in the audience who also still believes in the power and magic of movies. Comedies are a great way to get across a message like this, since jokes are just as universal as nostalgia. We want to remind people of the transformative power of cinema, the importance of community, and make them laugh along the way. Donations of any size will go a long way to help us make this dream a reality!
