It is our great pleasure to announce that CSUN Opera will proudly present a LIVE performance of the American opera Street Scene this fall. The Music and Theater Departments, led by Music Director Mercedes Juan Musotto and Stage Director Maurice Godin, are delighted to showcase a production centered around the beauty of simplicity. Their layered, introspective interpretation is accentuated by the talent of the young artists who power its program. With a libretto by Elmer Rice and lyrics by Langston Hughes, Kurt Weill’s Street Scene is a love letter to American culture, which will be particularly welcomed by audiences longing for culture and a return of the arts so greatly missed throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
During this extended period of isolation, we have yearned for a sense of connection and have been reminded of the great importance and impact of community. The community depicted in Street Scene has evolved into a character unto itself; a living, breathing theatrical being formed by the collective of CSUN performers. You will witness the performers connect with each other and with the audience in an outdoor setting with Covid-safe grouped seating. The lighting and staging have been very intricately designed for versatility and use from scene to scene to amaze and transport you throughout the performance.
For the continued safety of everyone, we will perform outdoors and greatly appreciate and depend on your donation to support our mobile stage and production equipment to enrich the lives of our students and staff and those touched by this performance. If you would like to be a part of CSUN Opera’s exuberant return to live performances, please support us with a financial contribution. We appreciate your generosity and cannot wait to welcome you to the community of Street Scene.
