Journalism 101 - CSUN Senior Thesis Pilot

Welcome to the fundraising campaign for the CSUN Senior Thesis Pilot, Journalism 101!

The Story

Our half hour sitcom, Journalism 101, is about news anchor, John Ferrell, who publicly gets fired on air. From the fallout he must find a way to pay off his legal fees and has to make a deal with an old friend to teach journalism at his old university. He’s apprehensive at first, not wanting anything to do with these children’s lives, however after learning that he could actually teach them about real news reporting and make an impact on their lives, he might decide that staying a professor could be one of the most fulfilling things he’s ever done.

What Your Donation is For

We fully appreciate all the donations that help create our pilot episode! The money from your donations will help throughout all stages of production. If you contribute to this film, your donation will be used in the different departments on our productions including:

  • Locations: acquiring permits, insurance, and transportation, etc.
  • Camera & Lighting: rentals for a camera package, lighting gear, grip truck and equipment, etc.
  • Sound: rentals for sound equipment, composer, sound cart, etc.
  • Art Department: production design, set decoration, props, wardrobe, hair and makeup, etc.
  • Post Production: editing equipment, color correction, distribution, hard drives, etc.
  • Catering and Craft Services: meals that are provided on set for our amazing cast and crew, crafties, etc
  • COVID Safety: PPE for all personnel on set, proper sanitizing and disinfecting equipment, masks, face shields, COVID testing, etc.

As a reminder we want to say, contributions to Journalism 101 are 100% Tax Deductible. The California State University, Northridge Foundation is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) public benefit California corporation.

How We Plan On Keeping Everyone Safe

Since this will be most people’s first time being in such a big group of people, COVID-19 safety is our #1 priority. We will require 100% vaccination proof for all of our cast and crew members.  We will stay up to date with the local, federal, and state mandates and updates, as well as industry guidelines when being on set. We will provide ample amounts of PPE, for example masks and face shields, access to COVID-19 Rapid Testing, sanitation and disinfection equipment, and individually packed meals and snacks. We have a certified COVID-19 Compliance Officer (COC) that will be on set at all times.

Other Ways to Show Your Support

We appreciate you taking the time to look through our fundraising page! We understand that financial donations may not be feasible for everyone! There are many other ways to help us with creating our show! To keep up to date with what’s happening, we invite you to follow and share our Social Media accounts with friends and family, and share our Donation Page as well.
