The CSUN Michael D. Eisner College of Education Alumni Chapter is leading a campaign to support future teachers facing financial obstacles before they even enter a formal CSUN teacher preparation program.
The pathway to a teaching career begins with the application and admission process, which includes costs associated with application fees, basic skills and subject matter exam/s, and fingerprint clearances. These costs can range from $340 to $700 per candidate.
The Education Alumni Chapter seeks to raise $5,000 to help offset these costs for incoming credential candidates facing financial burden.
As part of the Matador Match Challenge, each dollar raised with be matched - dollar for dollar - to double the impact of each gift, supporting twice the number of students.
$20 is matched to become $40, partially covering the cost of an applicant's Basic Skills Exam.
$35 is matched to become $70, allowing for one candidate to pay for the CPR certification required to become a teacher.
$60 is matched to become $120, supporting a fee waiver for one candidate applying to the credential program.
$100 is matched to become $200, to cover the cost of a candidate's Subject Matter Exam.
