Welcome To The Fundraising Campaign for Union Avenue!
The Story:
Union Avenue follows Keith Adams, a Los Angeles police officer who took the life of an innocent man early in his career. Years later, demands for reform have led to better funding for social workers to respond to mental health calls instead of cops. When Anne Davis, a young social worker, runs into trouble conducting a wellness check on a couple with a history of drug abuse, she turns to the police--dispatch sends Keith. Anne quickly recognizes his infamous name, and vehemently disapproves of letting Keith handle the situation alone. But as they enter the residence, they quickly realize that they must work together and combine their methods if they are to survive.
This story is important because it reflects the very real problem of how poorly police are trained for mental health crises, but also recognizes that not all situations can be solved with just a social worker. Union Avenue tackles the reality that justice in the field isn’t always black and white, and that the best way to save lives often lies in the tenuous gray.
