Ballet Folklórico Aztlán de California State University, Northridge (BFA de CSUN) is currently fundraising for their 16th music and dance concert, Folklor de México, taking place on Saturday, June 10, 2023. BFA de CSUN had taken a sabbatical from its annual show due to the pandemic; however, BFA de CSUN has strengthened itself and is ready to make its return.
At this year’s concert BFA de CSUN will present folkloric dances from three different states of Mexico: Jalisco, Nuevo León, and Veracruz of the Huasteca region. BFA de CSUN is also inviting two guest folklórico dance groups to participate. The annual concert is a way for BFA de CSUN to educate the CSUN community as well as the surrounding communities about Mexico’s and L.A.’s rich culture through the art of Mexican/Chicana/o folkloric dance. It is also a way for the students in the group to showcase to their families and friends what they have learned and dedicated so much time to throughout the 2022-2023 academic year.
BFA de CSUN’s Scholarship Committee also issues scholarships to seniors from local high schools that plan on continuing to higher education, CSUN graduating seniors (bachelor’s degree), and to JR. College students transferring to a four-year school. It has been a tradition for BFA de CSUN to award the scholarships at the annual concert. The organization works really hard all year to fundraise as much as possible to pay for most of the expenses for the concert as well as for as many scholarships as possible. We are hopeful that we will raise enough funds this year to award 2-3 students with a scholarship. However, support from others, such as campus departments, to cover other expenses is always extremely helpful and necessary.
