About The Last Promise
THE LOG LINE
As a radio-toxic cloud approaches, an 85-year-old man who refuses to evacuate and a young trans social worker intent on changing his mind have nothing in common until they discover they are each other’s missing puzzle piece in healing ancient family wounds.
THE STORY
The Last Promise is a humanistic story set against the backdrop of a traveling toxic cloud and takes place in an evacuated coastal village – except for 85-year-old Omeed. His life's regret is not having acted as a father at a crucial time, so he has vowed to redeem himself by waiting for his off-grid daughter rather than evacuate.
Enter Solár Esperanza, trans woman and social worker with “sass,” that is, S.A.S – Seniors Aid Society. She's there to convince Omeed to leave, warning that the redder the sky becomes, the heavier the load of radio-toxicity. Instead she finds herself camping out at his house.
THE DILEMMA
Omeed wants the chance to be a good father, and Solár wants a father who doesn’t reject her. Meanwhile, the toxic cloud is picking up speed and heading in their direction. When concerning information comes to light, Omeed must choose between keeping his vow to his own daughter or saving Solár’s life.
THE THEME
The Last Promise distills the themes of “live and let live,” along with otherness, regret, redemption, and humanism itself, to an interaction between an octogenarian from a fundamentalist regime and a tattooed trans woman who form not a just a friendship, but a familial bond.
