CSUN Environmental 2025-2026 Project/Mission Statement

As the Environmental Design Team, we aim to develop an affordable and effective filtration system to treat water for various contaminants. Students research the best method for the treatment of the water and write a design paper detailing the reason they chose their process and an estimation of the cost for removal per gram of contaminants. As a team, we aim to practice and do multiple test runs with smaller scale versions of our system, eventually leading up to practicing with our system using similar contaminants in the wastewater to assure that it functions. Funding is important, as students are exposed to an increasingly important branch of Civil Engineering as water scarcity increases. Additionally, this team allows for students to apply civil engineering principles, such as hydraulics, water treatment, and environmental systems in practical design. The funding would go to buying materials for the filtration system and materials used for practicing our system.
