New Geology Field Vehicle Fundraiser
Geology needs a new field vehicle!
The CSUN Department of Geological Sciences has a proud tradition of fieldwork and field-study. Field trips are a fundamental part of our department curriculum, and many students are involved in faculty-led research that requires 4x4 vehicles to access remote areas of western North America.
Our aging fleet includes Truck #24 (>20 years old), Truck 515 (14 years old), Van #457 (18 years old), and a new van that we inherited from Biology (~12 years old). All these vehicles have over 100,000 miles and are becoming less reliable every day.
A generous donor has provided $25k in matching funds toward the purchase of a new vehicle. Your donation will be matched DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR up to $25k. In total, this will provide $50,000 to purchase a new field vehicle to replace one of our decades-old vehicles and provide safe, reliable transport for our students.

SiO₂ One of the most common minerals in the Earth's crust, quartz can form beautiful, euheadral crystals that are popular gemstones.

Diamond Level (Mohs 10)
C (carbon) formed in ultra high pressure and temperature conditions. Diamonds have the highest hardness and thermal conductivity of any natural material. Obviously famous as a gemstone as well.
